Workshop Series: Composition
We like to share our photography knowledge with other people, so this series is meant to show off some of the work that our workshop participants have created.
This workshop was all about composition. We talked about some of the “rules” of composition in photography including the rule of thirds, use of leading lines, and negative space. Most importantly, we encouraged our participants to slow down and be more thoughtful about their photography. We think it’s better to take twenty pictures and end up with fifteen great images than to haphazardly “spray and pray,” only to end up sorting through fifty or more images just to find the best fifteen.
We paired up our participants and sent them on a photo walk in downtown Olympia to look for creative and interesting scenes. Everybody came back with their own visual stories and we critiqued their images together when it was all done.
